Esports news North
In brief:
North is a Danish esports organization that is famous thanks to its CS:GO roster. Let us walk you through the history of the CS:GO subdivision.
First Appearance
The community started speaking about North at the beginning of 2017. In January, the football club F.C. Copenhagen and Nordisk Film announced the foundation of their esports organization called North. The first roster was made up by players that had been playing for Dignitas before:
· MSL
· k0nfig
· RUBINO
· cajunb
· Magisk
The Danish-Norwegian players got down from a mall, straight to the ball. The first tournament for the fresh team was ELEAGUE Major: Atlanta 2017 where North took 5th-8th place.
After the performance in Atlanta, North took 3rd-4th place at DreamHack Masters Las Vegas 2017 and 5th-6th place at Intel Extreme Masters XI – World Championship.
In spring 2017, North performed at a series of major championships where they showed worthy results. The most significant results might be ESL Pro League Season 5 – Europe which was won by North and ESL Pro League Season 5 – Finals where the gamers stopped one step away from the champion’s title.
In July, North took 9th-11th place at ESL One: Cologne 2017, and later they played at the second for the organization Major tournament which was PGL Major Krakow 2017. There North again took 5th-8th place.
After the performance at PGL Krakow 2017, the main roster lost Magisk whose spot was later taken by valde. The renewed roster got down to the following season.
Muddle and Attempts to Cement the Position in the Top
The season 2018 again started for North with a performance at a Major tournament. Then it was ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018 where North took 15th-16th place which did not correspond to the expectations of the owners of the club. After the event in Boston, Cajunb left the team and was replaced by mertz. Then the main roster lost k0nfig.
Having dismissed two players and signed Kjarbye and mertz instead of them, North continued trying to make it to the top of the most successful club in Europe. To put it mildly, that plan did not go smoothly.
After the reshuffle in the roster, North took 5th-6th place at cs_summit 2, 7th-8th at Intel Extreme Masters XII – World Championship, 3rd-4th place at Copenhagen Games 2018, 2nd place Bets.net Masters: Season 1, and 9th at ESL Pro League Season 7 – Europe.
The streak of unremarkable performances was crushed by the first place at DreamHack Tours 2018.
The victory at the championship filled the players with confidence that helped them to show good results at the following tournaments.
North took 3rd-4th place at StarSeries & i-League CS:GO Season 5 and DreamHack Open Summer 2018.
It was followed by a failure at ESL One: Cologne 2018 but later the gamers won DreamHack Open Valencia 2018.
In August, the roster went through minor changes. The team took on niko who replaced mertz.
The slightly renewed roster set about playing at FACEIT Major: London 2018. Unfortunately for their fans, the team was destroyed at the event: North was knocked out of the championship at the 17th-19th place as the team lost all matches there. That performance led to new changes in the roster.
In September, MSL joined the bench whereas his slot was given to cadiaN. A bit later the club signed gade who replaced niko.
2019-2020
At the beginning of 2019 North finished third at Europe Minor Championship – Katowice 2019 and later the players won GG.Bet Ice Challenge 2019.
However, in the spring the results started to melt away. At first, the club took 7th-8th place at the qualifiers for Intel Extreme Masters XIV – Sydney: European Qualifier, later 5the place at Esports Championship Series Season 7 – Europe, and 5th-8th position at StarSeries & I-League CS:GO Season 7.
In May, North failed another qualifier with the fourth position at ESL One: Cologne 2019 – European Qualifier after that they finished at the 5th-6th place at ESL Pro League Season 9 –Europe and took 7th-8th place at DreamHack Masters Dallas 2019.
That performance led the team to a replacement in the roster: JUGi came instead of cadiaN and valde became the captain of the roster.
Nevertheless, the rotation of the players did not make any difference in the team. Even though North took 3rd-4th place at Esports Championship Series Season 7 – Finals, later the team failed all big tournament. What is meant here is 9th-12th place at ESL Pro League Season 9 – Finals, 12th-14th at StarLadder Berlin Major 2019 and 13th-16th at DreamHack Masters Malmo 2019.
The series of demolishing failures resulted in new changes in the team. In October, North signed cajunb who replaced valde although it was not the end of the reshuffle story.
Almost all 2020, North skipped from side to side chaotically looking for an optimal roster.
In January, they again signed MSL who started playing instead of JUGi, and in April JUGi left the team again.
In May an injury made Kjarbye join the bench leaving his slot for kristou. By the way, kristou would leave and join North two more times till the end of the year.
At the end of the year, North’s roster looked that way:
· gade
· cajunb
· Lekr0
· kristou
· kreaz
At breaks between constant reshuffles, North took part in all possible tournament. In fact, their results might have been much better.
The most successful performances resulted in 3rd-4th place at DreamHack Open Anaheim 2020, HomeSweetHome: Week, Nine to Five #3 and 2nd place at Eden Arena: Malta Vibes – Week 10.
