We continue to follow what's going on in China's LPL Spring 2024. In case you've forgotten, the play-offs are in full swing and the fate of not only the regional championship, but also a slot at the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 is being decided.

And if the championship is relatively far away, then the place on MSI 2024 will be played already in this match. And someone from the pair JD Gaming - TOP Esports will play at the first home international championship.

We are trying to figure out who of the pair JD Gaming - TES will be stronger, win the match, advance to the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 and make it to the grand finals of LPL Spring 2024, where they will play against BLG.

TOP Esports uniforms

We open the LPL Spring 2024 Small Finals with an analysis of TES's match form. They will play in this match as favourites with odds to win at around 1.5.

In 2022, Top Esports finished top-2 in the domestic league twice before appearing at the 2022 Worlds, where they finished top-10. In the new season, the situation is slightly worse: they finished top-7 in the LPL Spring 2023, managing to qualify for the play-offs but failing to win a single game there.

The group stage for TOP Esports was pleasant, but far from perfect. TES shared the top 4 of the regular season with LNG, winning 12-4 in the series.

In their first play-offs match, TES faced serious resistance from EDG. TES defeated their counterparts by a score of 3-2.

TES fell to the bottom seed after a clash with Bilibili Gaming. That match ended with a 3-1 victory for the latter. Further bad luck continued in the lower grid of LPL Summer 2023. In the match for life at the tournament TES met LNG Esports, tried to impose a fight, but were powerless, lost with a score of 1-3 and left the tournament on the 4th line.

TES later played at the LPL Regional Finals 2023, where they tried to make it to the Worlds. Again they came up just short, as TES Ledge beat WBG 2-3, thus losing their chances of making it to Worlds 2023.

TES also had NEST 2023, where TES did not make it out of the group, finishing 2-1. The group stage of Demacia Cup 2023 was quite easy for TOP Esports: they didn't lose a single match in Group D and easily made it to the main stage. However, in the play-offs, TES did not have the same ease: TOP Esports lost their first play-offs match to Ledgeiv JDG 2-3, which is not too bad considering the overall condition of the teams during the last season.

TOP Esports had a very good LPL Spring 2024 regular season: the team went 13-3, thus advancing straight to the Double-Elimination stage. In their first round of play-offs, TES played against JD Gaming and easily stomped them 3-0. Next were BLG in the match for the play-offs and there unfolded a real drama with a 3-2 victory in favour of Bilibili Gaming.

JD Gaming Form

We open the match breakdown with an analysis of JD Gaming's form. In this match they will play catch-up with odds to win at around 2.1.

JD Gaming became the champions of the spring LPL quite easily. The only difficult match came in the semifinals of the top net, where BLG gave JDG problems, taking 2 maps.

Among other things, JD Gaming became the champions of the first large-scale The International event in 2023 - Mid-Season Invitational 2023. If we remember the group stage of LPL Summer 2023, JD Gaming fell just short of BLG's record, playing the stage with a score of 14-2.

JDG debuted with a victory over BDS. I would like to mention the European club, which kept in the game till about 20 minutes. It was expected that the defeat would be much bigger than the final 14-6 in favour of the Chinese.

The second match JD Gaming played against Bilibili Gaming, vice-champions of MSI 2023 and LPL Spring 2023. Being the top team in China, JDG easily defeated the third team from the Middle Kingdom, closing the series with a 19-7 score in 24 minutes.

In the play-offs match, JD Gaming played against their compatriots from LNG Esports. They won the match, but not without problems (2-1).

In the first play-offs match JD Gaming played against KT Rolster. After losing the first map, JDG showed why they are considered the main contender to win Worlds 2023: absolutely dominant game without any chances for KT Rolster residents.

Next, the situation was the exact opposite. Facing T1, JDG managed to take only one card in the bo5 series. The defeat by T1 ended JDG's Golden Road in 2023.

JD Gaming started the play-offs of Demacia Cup 2023 with a match against TOP Esports. There, JDG won with a score of 3-2. In the previous match, JDG demolished Rare Atom with a score of 3-0. In the Demacia Cup 2023 grand final, however, they were weaker than BLG, losing 0-3 and finishing top 2.

In the LPL Spring 2024 regular season, JD Gaming finished in 3rd place with a 13-3 record. The first play-offs opponent for JDG was Weibo Gaming and JDG did well: they won 3-0. But in the next game against TOP Esports the outcome was much less favourable for JDG, where TES lost 0-3. In the match for the top 3 JD Gaming met NiP and that match was a real test for JDG, which they hardly coped with.

JDG have historically been stronger than TES, but specifically at the LPL Spring 2024 Playoffs TES showed their best side, closing JDG with 3-0 without any problems at all.

After the face-to-face meeting of the teams in the semifinals, I have no idea what JD Gaming have to do to outplay TES in the bo5 series. I could still understand if that match ended 3-2 and in a close contest, but then it was just a beating. Add to that the fact of the battle against NiP on 5 maps and you will realise that JD Gaming is far from their peak and even optimal form now.

Bottom line: victory for TES.
