How the rating system in Rocket League works
Elen StelmakhIn Rocket League, like any other competitive esports game, there is a rating system that determines a player's skill level. This rating system is based on MMR (Matchmaking Rating) and is divided into titles and ranks. MMR is a set of points that reflect a player's level of mastery in the game. In this article, we will discuss the Rocket League rating system and how it tracks a player's progress.
System of titles
In Rocket League, there are sixteen titles, and each one is earned based on victories or losses in Rocket League matches. Additionally, each title contains several divisions that players must progress through to determine their mastery level.

- Challenger II
- Challenger III

System of ranks
In Rocket League, there is also an experience-based leveling system that is separate from the competitive ranking system. To gain a new level, players must earn experience points, which are awarded at the end of each match. Winning a match rewards the player with over 1,000 points, while losing subtracts 1,000 points. The game has a level cap of 75, and the higher the player's level, the higher their rank will be within the competitive ranking system.

How matchmaking rating works
Matchmaking rating, also known as MMR, is a mechanism of assignment of the public rank based on the results of matches.
MMR determines a player's final rank number. MMR points are awarded for each won match and calculated after each game, whether it results in a win or loss. Passing certain hidden MMR thresholds can lead to rank increases or decreases.
Players will not be able to view their MMR value on the in-game menu until they reach the Grand Champion rank.
As in other competitive games, defeating an opponent with a higher rank will bring more points, while losing to an opponent with a lower rank will subtract points.
It's also important to understand that when playing in a lobby with teammates, the number of opponents is often grouped based on the average rank value. At the end of each competitive season, ranks reset, and players will have to climb up the rating ladder again.
The season of Rocket League usually lasts 3-4 months. At the end of each season the rank of each player resets and players get awards for the season depending on the rank they were on. To claim season rewards of a specific rank, you have to win ten games in each rank.
Specifics of the rating system in Rocket League
As the main advantage of Rocket League is the number of different modes (playlists), the rating system functions separately for each of the modes.
The list of playlists in Rocket League:
- Duel
- Doubles
- Solo-Standard
- Standard
In Rocket League, each game mode has its own rating system, but the fundamental concept remains the same: players earn points for winning, and accumulating enough points leads to a higher level and a better rank.
Overall, Rocket League's rating system is easy to understand and does not require any special preparation, making it accessible for new players who can easily track their progress.
