Esports news Fnatic
In brief:
Fnatic is one of the most famous and respected multigamings in the esports world. The organization Fnatic was founded at the dawn of the industry and quickly held the leading positions. Now, the rosters of Fnatic are represented in many disciplines, including CSGO, Dota 2, League of Legends, and Overwatch. We present to your attention the history of the Dota 2 branch of Fnatic.
The first appearance
The tag Fnatic appeared for the first time in 2011. Then, the multigaming Fnatic signed the Serbian team GamersLeague, the roster of which included:
· BAJA-
· grizine
· g0g1
· Mitch
· Andre
Dreamhack Winter 2011 was the debut tournament for Fnatic. Then, the team demonstrated decent results and managed to place second, having stated about Fnatic’s ambitions.
However, Fnatic faced a row of failures after the triumphant debut. The team held the 17th-24th place at Infused Cup in January 2012, after which it finished 9th-12th at The Defense Season 1. It was followed by the 6th place at The Premier League Season 1 in March 2012, which was the last championship for the Serbian five on the roster of Fnatic.
Fnatic signed the former HoN players in March 2012. The updated roster included:
· N0tail
· NoVa
· Fly
· Era
The five were later completed by Trixi. Fnatic was playing with this roster till 2014.
The period of the European roster of Fnatic
The first results of Fnatic could hardly be called successful. The team held the 2nd place at joinDOTA Masters VI, the 5th-8th place at RaidCall Dota 2 Cup #2, the 9th-16th at Play4Dota 2012 #4.
In July 2012, Fnatic placed 12th at The Premier League Season 2 and won StarLadder ProSeries Season 2.
The team held the 17th-24th place at The Defense Season 2 in August and the 5th-8th at Play4Dota 2012 #9. Fnatic was not able to find its play for a long time, however, they managed to find its style at the end of the year.
The team prevailed at DreamHack Valencia 2012 in September. The team placed 5th-8th at RaidCall Dota 2 League Season 1 in October. Fnatic held the third place at DreamHack Winter 2012 in November, and they won Thor Open 2012 and held the 3rd place at StarLadder StarSeries Season 4 in November.
The results of the European five improved significantly in 2013. Fnatic placed 4th at The Premier League Season 3 in January, Fnatic prevailed at DotaHut Invitational in March and placed second at The Defense Season 3.
N0tail and the company held the second place at StarLadder StarSeries Season 5 and the 4th place at RaidCall Dota 2 League Season 2, and also the 3rd-4th place at DreamHack Invitational 2013 in April.
Such a confident performance at the beginning of the year allowed Fnatic to proceed to the main tournament in the discipline – The International 2013.
Surprisingly for many, Fnatic demonstrated a confident play at the championship and managed to enter the top 8 teams in the world. The further end of the year was over on a high note. Fnatic held the 2nd place at DreamLeague Kick-Off Season, the 3rd-4th place at Netolic Pro League #4 West, the 2nd place at RaidCall EMS One Fall Season, the 1st place at Netolic Pro League #4 West, the 2nd place at Fragbite Masters, and the 3rd place at RaidCall Dota 2 League Season 3.
The confident performance continued at the beginning of 2014. The team held the 2nd place at Dota 2 League Season 4 and the 4th place at StarLadder StarSeries Season 8. After that, Fnatic declined a bit, however, returned to its positions in spring 2014.
In April 2014, the team won XMG Captains Draft Invitational, MLG T.K.O Europe, and placed 3rd-4th at Fragbite Masters 2014 Spring and 4th at DreamHack Bucharest 2014.
Before TI 2014, the European five felt normal: they placed 3rd at HyperX D2L Western Challenge, 2nd at Dota 2 Champions League Season 3, and 3rd-4th at ESL One Frankfurt 2014.
However, they failed to repeat the success of the previous year’s The International. Fnatic held the 13th-17th place in 2014. Then, Era, Fly, and N0tail left the team after two years of playing under the tag Fnatic. The rest of the members of the European roster left the squad.
Fnatic and South Asia
Fnatic returned to the professional scene only in June 2015 with the signing of Team Malaysia. The updated roster of Fnatic included:
· kYxY
· Mushi
· Ohaiyo
· Kecik Imba
· JoHnNy
Fnatic spent a few tournaments with this roster, including The International 2015 where the team held the 13th-16th place. After the failure, KyXy, JoHny, and Kecik Imba departed from the team. Their spots were held by Black^, Net, and DJ but MidOne joined the roster instead of Black^ soon.
At the beginning of 2016, the team managed to make it to The Shanghai Major 2016 and also placed 7th-12th at StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 1.
The team held the 5th-6th place at The Shanghai Major 2016. After that, the roster was joined by 343 who replaced Net. After the good performance at The Shanghai major 2016, Fnatic had a row of pretty successful tournaments. They qualified to WePlay Dota 2 League Season 3 SEA Division, ESL One Manila, and EPICENTER. Also, the team prevailed at BTS Southeast Asia #4 and placed third at SEA Kappa Invitational Sea 1.
The team held the 3rd-4th place at ESL One Manila 2016 and the 10th place at EPICENTER 2016. The team took part in The Manila Major 2016 in May where placed 5th-6th and ESL One Frankfurt 2016 where achieved the 7th-8th place.
Fnatic became the champions of SEA Kappa Invitational Season 2 again in July.
At The International 2016, Fnatic showed the best result in the history of the tag. The team managed to place 4th, having surprised many. However, this result did not help to save the roster.
DJ, MidOne, and 343 left the team after TI 2016. Their spots were taken by DeMoN, Raven, and eyyou in September who although did not last long and left the team in November.
The period of reshuffles
The whole 2017 was a period of regular reshuffles and not that bright results for Fnatic.
Febby and InYourdreaM joined Fnatic in January 2017, however, the second one left the team a few days later. Then, Mushi left Fnatic. DJ returned to the team and Meracle and QO arrived. Ahjit joined the squad later.
The vortex of reshuffles continued after that. Meracle left the roster and Fnatic decided to update the team drastically after the failure at TI7 where the team placed 17th-18th.
EternalEnvy, pieliedie, and Xcalibur joined the team. Having arrived in August, Xcalibur parted ways with the team in November and his slot was taken by Abed.
The 2nd place at DOTA Summit 8 was the best result that year.
The situation with reshuffles calmed down in 2018-2019 and the results, in turn, improved.
UNiVeRsE joined the team in January who was playing for Fnatic till September 2018.
With this roster, Fnatic held the 4th place at ESL One Katowice 2018, the 2nd place at DreamLeague Season 9, the 4th place at ESL One Birmingham 2018. But Fnatic faced failure at The International and placed 13th-16th.
EternalEnvy, UNiVeRsE, and pieliedie left the team in September. Later, their spots were taken by iceiceice, Jabz, and MP. They were playing with this roster till June 2019.
During this period, Fnatic managed to place 7th-8th at The Kuala Lumpur Major, 5th-6th at The Chongqing Major, 4th at ESL One Katowice 2019, 3rd at DreamLeague Season 11. The results seemed to be nice, however, everything changed radically in May.
Fnatic held the 13th-16th place at MDL Disneyland Paris Major, after which finished in the same place at EPICENTER 2019 in June. It led to changes and DuBu arrived in the team instead of MP. But it was too late. Fnatic placed 13th-16th at The International 2019, after which the changes in the team began.
2020 and the era of online tournaments
In 2020, Fnatic returned to the road of reshuffles, which started after TI 2019. 23savage left the team in July and his place was held by Raven. Jabz replaced eyyou in September but iceiceice and the recently-arrived eyyou left the roster that month. Jabz returned to the squad in October and the roster was completed with Masaros in November.
Fnatic was totally dominating in its region during the pandemic. With iceiceice on the roster, they achieved victories at DOTA Summit 12, ESL One Los Angeles 2020 – Online: Southeast Asia, BTS Pro Series: Southeast Asia, ESL One Birmingham 2020 – Online: Southeast Asia, World Pro Series Season 2: Southeast Asia.
The team also placed 3rd at BTS Pro Series Season 2: Southeast Asia and ESL One Thailand 2020: Asia and 9th-10th at BTS Pro Series Season 3: Southeast Asia.
