In brief:

Team Envy (previously known as Team EnVyUs) is an esports multigaming organization, which was founded back in 2007. The organization is mostly known for its CSGO roster.

We present to your attention the history of Envy in Counter-Strike.

The first appearance

The tag appeared on the professional scene for the first time in 2015. Back then, the organization signed the former players of Team LDLC:

  • NBK
  • shox
  • SmithZz
  • Happy
  • kioShiMa

The star roster earned a slot in ESL Pro League Winter 2014/2015 right after the signing.

The first results and the world championship

A month later, Envy had a series of good performances, having placed 3rd at IOS Pantamera, 2nd at First Person Lover Challenge, and 4th at King of Majors.

However, the way more significant results were in March. Envy held the 3rd-4th place at the organization’s debut Major tournament ESL One: Katowice 2015.

After the successful performance in Katowice, Envy achieved victory at Gfinity Masters 1 and StarLadder StarSeries XII, and also placed 3rd-4th at ESL Pro League Winter 2014/15. The results were worse in May-June: the 4th place at PGL CS:GO Championship Series Kick-off Season, the 5th-6th place at Gfinity Spring Masters 2 and Fragbite Masters Season 4: Online Stage.

The situation began improving by the end of June. Envy held the 2nd place at StarLadder StarSeries XIII, prevailed at Gfinity Masters Summer 1, and placed 4th at ESL ESEA Pro League Season 1 – Europe.

The team swapped players with the organization Titan in July. KennyS and apEX joined the team but shox and SmithZz departed.

Right after the roster changes, Envy became the champions of Intel Extreme Masters Season X – gamescom and also was one step away from the championship at ESL One: Cologne 2015. Later, there was the 5th-6th place at ESL ESEA Pro League Invitational and the victory at DreamHack Open London 2015.

Envy did not stop at the London DreamHack: the team prevailed at Gfinity Champion of Champions and won DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015 two months later, in November, having become the best team in the world.

The season of 2016 and the slow decline of Envy

The beginning of 2016 predicted no trouble for Envy. The team held the 2nd place at Red Dot Invitational, the 3rd-4th place at StarLadder i-League StarSeries XIV, and prevailed in the first season of Global Esports Cup.

However, starting from February 2016, the situation was becoming worse. Envy placed 5th at ESL Expo Barcelona, 11th-12th at Intel Extreme Masters X – World Championship, and 13th-16th at MLG Major Championship: Columbus 2016.

The absolutely failed performance at the Major tournament led to roster changes. Kio parted ways with the club and his slot was taken by DEVIL.

However, it brought no significant changes. The team was slowly losing its momentum.

Envy held the 13th-16th place at the upcoming Major ESL One: Cologne 2016. After that, the team finished 5th-8th at ELEAGUE Season 1. By the end of the year, Envy’s best result was the victory at Gfinity CS:GO Invitational.

The season of 2017 and attempts to return its past greatness

Team Envy began the year pretty positively. The team held the 1st place at World Electronic Sports Games 2016, having earned 800,000 dollars of prize money.

However, the joy was not too long because the team held the 9th-11th place at ELEAGUE Major: Atlanta 2017. The team faced sudden replacements in February: NBK, kennyS, apEX, and enkay.J left the team. The slots of the departed players were held by RpK, xms, and devoduvek.

The new roster tried to repeat the achievements of the past years and revive Envy as the best team in the world.

But the newly-created team was pretty weak in its attempts. Envy placed 7th-8th at cs_summit 1, 7th-8th at DreamHack Open Tours 2017, 6th at ESL Pro League Season 5 – Finals.

Envy faced a series of successful performances only in July. Then, the team managed to prevail at DreamHack Open Atlanta 2017 and qualify to ESG Tours Mykonos 2017, ESL One: New York 2017, and ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2017.

However, ENVY was demonstrating pretty mediocre results at the tournaments: the 7th-8th place at EGS Tour Mykonos 2017 and ESL One: New York 2017, the 5th-8th place at ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2017.

Envy placed 2nd at Europe Minor Championship – Boston 2018 at the end of 2017, which allowed the team to play at the Boston Major at the beginning of 2018. Also, Envy finished 9th-10th at Intel Extreme Masters XII – Oakland.

The season of 2018 and a row of changes

The season 2018 started with the performance at the Boston Major. Envy failed it totally, having held the 19th-21st place.

The club management did not like such a state of affairs, so the decision was made to change the team. Initially, kioShiMa returned to the team, he replaced xms, after that SIXER’s slot was taken by hAdji. However, the updated roster did not help Envy one more time. The team held the 9th-12th place at World Electronic Sports Games 2017, the 9th-12th place at DreamHack Masters Marseille 2018, and the 12th place at ESL Pro League Season 7. The performance at CS:GO Asia Championship was the last result of the French roster where Envy held the 3rd-4th place.

The roster was disbanded in June and the new one was reassembled in November 2018. The updated roster included:

  • Drone
  • SEMPHIS
  • reltuC
  • Nifty
  • jdm64

After a row of unsuccessful tournaments, the new roster was changed. SEMPHIS was benched and his spot was taken by Pollo.

But the young player did not stay in the club for too long and he was replaced by karrigan.

The season of 2019

Envy was trying to make it to various tournaments during 2019. The team played in the qualifiers to many tournaments: Katowice Minor 2019, Intel Extreme Masters XIII, DreamHack Masters Dallas 2019, ESL One: Cologne 2019, Intel Extreme Masters XIV – Chicago. Envy failed everywhere.

It was logical that the team was followed by roster changes that year. Karrigan left the team, s0m, ANDROID, FugLy were signed, Sonic arrived in the squad. However, it changed nothing.

Envy played at a few S-level tournaments in the 2019 season. They were ESL Pro League Season 9 where the team placed 13th-16th, Intel Extreme Masters XIV – Chicago where the team held the 7th-8th place, DreamHack Masters Malmo 2019 where Envy finished 13th-16th.

Envy tried to rehabilitate in 2020.

The final twilight of ENVY

Attempts to change the sad situation were not successful. That year, Envy played at a few tournaments, including Flashpoint Season 1, ESL One: Road to Rio, cs_summit 6 Online: NA, Flashpoint Season 2. The 5th place at ESL One: Road to Rio – North America was the best achievement of the year. The last result was the 7th-8th place at Flashpoint Season 2.

Envy parted ways with all players by the end of 2020, the beginning of 0221. The CSGO branch of the team was put on hold.

The organization and rewards

Mike Rufail is the CEO of Envy.

The organization cooperates with a row of famous brands, including Jack In The Box, Acer Predator, GameStop, CORSAIR, Jack Link’s, Samsung, Team Infographics.

Since the creation, the CSGO branch has earned more than 2,100,000 dollars of prize money for Envy.
